Neighbor Tami Dixon lives on the South Side Slopes with her husband, Jeffrey Carpenter. They are both stage actors and playwrights who together built the Bricolage Theater Co., best known for the Midnight Radio Series. Tami received a grant and spent the last two years writing her lasted offering, “South Side Stories”, a play about life in the South Side. The play will be at City Theater through December 16th. UPDATE: South Side Stories has been extended for one week only from January 8-13, 2013
The play is getting great reviews. Don’t miss it!

South Side Slopes – the neighborhood where you’re almost as likely to see a turkey wandering down the street as cooking in your oven. Happy Thanksgiving from the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association!
At our last general meeting, a new member, Jamin Bogi, was elected to the SSSNA board. At his first board meeting, Jamin was then elected as our new secretary. Welcome, Jamin!
There are some additional changes. Brian Oswald is our new President and Maggie Buck is our new Vice President. Pavel Yakovlev remains Treasurer.
Thanks to Paul Lorincy for his many years of board membership and contribution to the SSSNA.

The next general meeting will be the Christmas Celebration on December 11 at the Monastery. Hope to see you there!
Thanks to our community members and trekkers who made Step Trek 2012 a great success! We had almost 1000 trekkers visiting the South Side Slopes for exercise, great views, and community involvement.

In the meantime, we remind our neighbors and friends to join us at our annual potluck Christmas Party on December 11.
In its 12th year, the Pittsburgh StepTrek will begin Saturday, Oct. 6 at 11AM at South Side Park (Josephine & 21st Streets) on the South Side. The event has lasted these many years with the backing of individuals with a curiosity as to what lies at the top or bottom of the numerous public stairs in the neighborhood.
It’s official! We will be lighting up the 18th Street Steps one week from today on Friday 10/5/2012. The timing of this precedes the SSSNA’s annual StepTrek event, which will be held the following day.
If you are available, please plan to arrive by 6:50 or so. There is not a lot of space to stand on the sidewalk at the bottom of the steps, so we will assemble on the steps themselves, from 18th Street upwards as needed. Judy Dyda, who led this effort for the SSLDC, will have a few brief remarks before our electrician, Russ Kim, throws the switch at 7:00 pm.
We would be honored if you could attend this long-awaited “ta-da” made possible through the generosity and community-mindedness of Duquesne Light, and the help, hard work, and support of every one of you.

In 2012, more than 140 LED light bars, one attached under each stair tread, were installed at the 18th St. bend. Through a partnership with and funding from Duquesne Light, the stairs are now a beautiful, well-lit “gateway” to the Slopes.
In preparation for Step Trek, we are planning a final cleanup on the Slopes. We will be cutting back overgrowth and picking up trash along the routes. Please, join us under the Mission Street Bridge at 21st Street at the entrance to South Side Park at 10AM on Saturday, September 29. We will supply plenty of trash bags, gloves, and clippers.

Hope to see you there!
