Feed the Hungry on Thanksgiving

Tom’s Diner (folino’s Restaurant and the Rotary Club of the South Side are organizing delivery of Thanksgiving Meals on Thanksgiving day for residents of South Side and surrounding communities. Meals will be delivered by City Of Pittsburgh police officers to senior high rises and individual homes in Zone 3 and Zone 6 communities. If you are in need of a meal or know anyone who is, please call 412-381-1541 or Officer Christine Luffey – 412-488-8425 and leave a message with return telephone number.  There are no income or age requirements.  All calls will be returned.

Dash for Diamonds Scavenger Hunt

What do Carson City Saloon, Fire Station #24 and Nakama all have in common?!
Join us and FIND OUT!! Dash 4 Diamonds is a scavenger hunt covering one of the best, most interesting and diverse neighborhoods that Pittsburgh has to offer.

You will trek through the South Side of Pittsburgh with your team, collecting everything imaginable in a race against the clock, all in the name of raising money for Penn State’s Dance Marathon which raises funds to combat pediatric cancer. What better way to spend a Saturday fall afternoon after watching the afternoon football games than raising money, For The Kids!!

With over 50 places to go and things to do and some fun surprises along the way, Dash 4 Diamonds includes stops at all your favorite places along East Carson St. It is sure to be a great event and a great way to raise money for pediatric cancer. $25 per person to enter, must have a minimum of 4 people per team. (each member will register separately- so pick a creative team name now!) For solo entrants or those with less than 4 people, we will pair you up with another group!
Specials at selected establishments, a rockin’ t-shirt and of course trophies and medals for the top three teams.

Neighborhood Cleanups for Steptrek

October 12th Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of the SSSNA will be on Tuesday October 12, 2010 at 7:00 in the main lounge of St Paul of the Cross Retreat Center.

At this important meeting, we will be voting on the proposed changes to the bylaws as described in the documents below.  In addition, we will be electing board members for the Association  This year 6 board positions are up for election to a two year term.  Voting right are extended to all members in good standing (who have paid their dues for 2010).  Anyone interested in running for a board position is asked to contact board governance committee chair, Don Ware at don.ware@southsideslopes.org

Trail building in South Side Park

We have been offered technical assistance to rebuild/refurbish a trail in South Side Park in advance of StepTrek and need your help.
Time: From 9AM -1 PM  Come whenever you can for as long as you can… It’s not necessary to stay the whole time.
Place : Meet at Bandi Schaum field off of Mission Street.

Clean up The Slopes

I have received a number of emails regarding overgrowth, weed-filled gardens, and trash on the Slopes. In an effort to clean up our neighborghood, the SSSNA is sponsoring cleanups the next two Saturdays 8/7 and 8/14 at 9-11 AM and 1-3 PM. Meet at the Veronica’s Veil parking lot at 66 Pius Street. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.

These cleanups can only be successful if you come out to help. We need volunteers to help keep our neighborhood clean.

Come to the Night At the Races on Saturday August 21, 2010 at the Veronica’s Veil Auditorium, 44 Pius Street. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the races start at 7:00 PM.

$7.00 will get you food, beer and refreshments as well as a chance to place bets on horses in all the races. (Adults Only)
